Arthur Hinds

I’ve been a singer, guitarist, percussionist, and songwriter for Celtic-American folk rock band Emerald Rose since 1996; my major instrument for the band is the bodhran, or traditional Irish frame drum. Being a singer-songwriter, however, has been part of my musical life since I was a teenager, and my solo endeavors return to this root. Many of my songs take their inspiration from the mystical path, Earth-centered spirituality, and Celtic mythology. I also continue to sing songs from the Celtic and American folk traditions. In addition, I’m a storyteller, stage magician, and former actor and dancer, so I have many performance skills to draw on.

Spiral Rhythm is a group of friends that have been singing together for almost ten  years. They began singing at bonfires, gatherings, and festivals.  Slowly, they developed their unique sound complete with deep, multi-textured chants and explosive drums. Spiral Rhythm has gone through many changes, but their goal has always been the same-to raise the spirit through voice and song. The group features Ric Neyer,  Kerri Upton, Kiki Williamson, Madison Cansler, Jon Skoglund, PJ Seale, and Kira Lang. All sing and play percussion. Kiki and PJ write the vast majority of the group’s uplifting songs. Spirit music, indeed!

Alena Indigo Anne Sullivan

Up and coming writer will be sharing some of her wonderful stories and poems

Alena Indigo Anne Sullivan, 26, holds a degree in Anthropology and is a student in the Stonecoast MFA program for Creative Writing. Alena is a fiction writer, poet, and visual artist who focuses on identity within narrative and the repeated cultural pattern formed by fairy and folk tales. Her story, “Gorse Daughter, Sparrow Son,” originally published in Strange Horizons Magazine, will appear in Rich Horton’s Year’s Best Science Fiction and Fantasy 2017. Alena lives with her boyfriend, Bruce, in the wilds of the North Georgia mountains. She studies under the mentorship of Jeanne Marie Beaumont (Letters from Limbo and several other poetry collections), Theodora Goss (author of The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter, Songs for Ophelia, The Thorn and Blossom, and In the Forest of Forgetting) James Patrick Kelly (author of Strange But Not a Stranger and over 100 other published stories, columnist for Asimov’s Science Fiction Magazine) in the Stonecoast program, working to write stories that provide agency to previously marginalized characters–both original figures (women, POC, LGBTQ*, and differently-abled characters) and figures of mythological or fairy tale fame (Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Persephone, etc.). Alena combines her eclectic Neopagan upbringing with the quirky attitude of a lifelong musician’s daughter, a child raised amid the sci-fi-tinted strangeness of various conventions and magical venues, to create a unique, lyrical voice that speaks for itself. Alena’s short fiction and poetry work has appeared in Strange Horizons, Goblin Fruit, Illumen, Urban Fantasy, Expanded Horizons, Luna Station Quarterly, and elsewhere.
